In the year before, millions of adult coloring books were sold, though the precise figure is still unknown. Publishers Weekly reports that the combined sales of the top 10 bestselling books exceeded 1.5 million copies.
Even while adult coloring books weren’t a new idea, the market saw a boom in sales, mostly due to the detailed drawings created by Scottish artist Johanna Basford. “Secret Garden,” Basford’s first adult coloring book, sold over a million copies in just two years after it was published in 2013.
